According to Article 21a, paragraph 2 of the Regulations on the Legalisation, Certification and Translation of Documents and Other Papers, in order for a translator to perform an official and/or certified translation from Spanish into Bulgarian, they must be a sworn translator to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For this purpose, proficiency in Spanish is certified by one of the following documents:
- a diploma for completion of at least a bachelor’s degree in Spanish philology or another equivalent document;
- a diploma or another equivalent document for completed higher education in Spanish at a foreign higher education institution;
- a diploma for completed higher education or another equivalent document for completed higher education abroad in specialties for which a state examination in Spanish is taken;
- a diploma for completion of a language high school with a minimum of 800 academic hours of Spanish;
- a document for completed education or specialisation in Spanish with a full-time study period of not less than one year;
- a certificate of Spanish proficiency at level C1 or C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or DELE SUPERIOR, issued by the Instituto Cervantes.
Diplomas from foreign educational institutions must be recognised as equivalent to Bulgarian education.
It is possible for a foreigner who is a native speaker of Spanish to be sworn in so that they can translate from Spanish into Bulgarian, provided that they certify proficiency in Bulgarian.
