Contract translation

A contract may govern supply, sale, services, lease, employment, loan, credit, licensing, distribution, agency, confidentiality, cooperation or another specific transaction. Each type uses its own terminology and allocates different rights, duties and risks between the parties.

The translation may support negotiation and signature, performance of an existing agreement, internal corporate review, a banking or administrative procedure, litigation or presentation to a partner. The intended use determines the language version, layout and appropriate form of certification.

A complete translation covers the parties and their authority, subject matter, defined terms, duration, prices and currencies, payment, warranties, liability, termination, governing law, courts or arbitration and every other agreed condition.

Numbering, cross-references, tables, formulae, notes, signatures, seals and schedules form part of the document’s logic. Amendments, general terms, technical specifications, price lists and later variations are treated as a connected set where they change or supplement the main agreement.

A defined term retains the same meaning throughout all clauses. Party names, roles, products, services, time periods and documents remain consistent, while numbers, dates, percentages, currencies and references are checked against the source.

A legal term is not replaced mechanically by wording from another legal system where the concepts do not fully correspond. Context, governing law and approved client terminology or an earlier version guide the choice. Translation conveys the agreement without adding legal interpretation absent from the source.

Professional written translation is often sufficient for negotiation and internal work. A bank, court, authority or other recipient may require a certified copy, authentication of signatures or another specific form.

A contract is generally a private document, so apostille and legalisation do not apply automatically as they might to a public document. Price reflects the language pair, length, complexity, file format and specialist legal, commercial, financial or technical terminology. A short standard agreement differs from a multi-part contract with extensive definitions, schedules, appendices and cross-references.

Revision against a reference version, bilingual layout, certification, extra copies, notarial or institutional procedures and delivery are calculated separately. The quotation identifies the translation volume, included materials, turnaround and finished format.

Turnaround depends on word and page count, language, legibility, complexity and terminology research. An agreement with recurring defined terms, tables, formulae, drafting notes or schedule references requires time for complete revision rather than isolated sentence translation.

Standard, urgent or express work is scheduled after review of the full set. Where several versions must be compared or the translation forms part of a larger transaction, stages and priority sections can be organised within one delivery plan.

A legible PDF, Word file or scan of every page allows the language pair, volume, turnaround, layout and certification form to be assessed. Schedules, amendments, general terms, tables, signatures and variation pages belong to the working set where they relate to the agreement.

Documents can be handled remotely and the finished translation delivered as an edited digital file, bilingual version, certified paper copy or courier package. Confidential content is used only to provide the commissioned service.
