Canada has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since 11 January 2024. This simplifies the use of eligible public documents between Canada and Bulgaria, but it does not mean that every document goes to the same authority or that an apostille replaces translation.

What changed for Canadian documents?

Canada deposited its instrument of accession on 12 May 2023, and the Convention entered into force for Canada on 11 January 2024. A Canadian public document carrying a proper apostille after that date generally needs no further legalisation by a Bulgarian embassy or consulate when used in Bulgaria. Translation and case-specific filing requirements still remain.

Who issues an apostille for a Canadian document?

The competent authority depends on whether the document is federal, provincial or notarised and on the province of origin. Global Affairs Canada handles certain documents, while designated provincial authorities act for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. We identify the issuing jurisdiction instead of sending every document to one office.

How is a Canadian document prepared for Bulgaria?

First we establish whether it is a qualifying public document and which Canadian authority can apostille it. A certified Bulgarian translation is then prepared in the form accepted by the Bulgarian recipient. Birth, marriage and death records may also require a separate registration with a Bulgarian municipality.

How is a Bulgarian document prepared for Canada?

The Bulgarian apostille authority is selected by issuer: judicial and notarial acts, educational records, municipal certificates and other public documents do not share one route. Translation into English or French is then chosen according to the province and receiving institution. La Fit Trans combines the applicable steps in one clear quotation.

Which documents are commonly prepared?

Typical requests include birth, marriage and death certificates, criminal record certificates, diplomas and transcripts, powers of attorney, declarations and company records. The document name alone does not determine the procedure; issuer, original or copy, notarisation and intended use must also be checked.

Does the apostille replace translation?

No. An apostille authenticates the origin of a public document, including the signature, the capacity of the signer and, where relevant, the seal. Translation renders the content in another language, while certification of the translation is a separate requirement. Our quotation lists these as distinct services.

What should you send for an accurate quotation?

Customers send a legible copy of every page, attachment, stamp and certification. Customers state the country and institution where the document will be used, the required language, deadline and delivery method. Customers include written instructions or a template from the recipient so that unnecessary steps are not added.

How are price and delivery time determined?

Price reflects the volume and complexity of translation, layout, required certifications, administrative fees and delivery. Timing also includes the relevant authority when its work forms part of the order. Customers send the documents online or bring them to a convenient office for a specific written proposal.
