An official written translation accurately presents the content and identifying features of a document for a public authority, employer, educational institution, bank or other organisation.

An official written translation is a professionally prepared translation of a document intended for submission to a public authority, employer, educational institution, bank, court or other organisation. It conveys the meaning of the source and clearly identifies the document, the source and target languages and the purpose for which the translation has been prepared.
Accuracy covers more than the main text. Names, dates, reference numbers, stamps, signatures, annotations and visible authentication details are reproduced or described consistently. Illegible or missing passages are marked rather than completed by assumption. The layout is arranged so that the relationship between the source document and its translation remains easy to follow.
The required form depends on the receiving organisation. An electronic file may be sufficient in one case, while another may require the translator's signature, a paper copy, attachment to a copy or original, or a separate certification. Official translation, certified translation, apostille and legalisation therefore describe different elements and are not automatically added to every assignment.
For a foreign document translated into Bulgarian for use in Bulgaria, a certified translation may require notarisation of the translator's signature. For a Bulgarian document intended for use abroad, the applicable route is set by the destination country and the receiving authority; they may request certification in Bulgaria or a translation completed under local rules.
