A Bulgarian certificate of heirs lists the legal heirs of a deceased person on the basis of the population register and the checks made by the municipal authority. It is used for inherited property, bank accounts, pensions, insurance, tax matters and other proceedings. The translation must preserve the exact relationship between the deceased, every listed heir and any explanatory note issued by the authority.
## What does the certificate establish?
The certificate records the heirs of the deceased person according to the information verified by the municipal administration. It identifies the deceased and the people entered as heirs at the time of issue. It does not by itself prove ownership, confirm acceptance of the inheritance or allocate a share in a particular asset. Those matters may require separate evidence.
## Where is it issued and who may request it?
The service is provided by the municipality, district administration or mayoralty for the deceased person's last permanent address. An applicant is usually an heir, a legal representative or a person holding express authority, and in defined cases another person with a demonstrated legal interest. Required supporting documents and delivery options are confirmed with the responsible administration.
## Which details must be visible in the copy?
We check the deceased person's names and identifiers, date and place of death, death-record reference and every listed heir. Kinship, dates, deceased heirs, representation by descendants, explanatory notes, reference number, issue date, signature and seal can all affect the translation. Every page, continuation sheet and visible amendment must be supplied for review.
## What is compared before translation?
Names are compared with passports and the other documents that will accompany the certificate so that one consistent spelling is used in Latin script or the target language. We also compare numbers, dates, kinship terms, addresses, notes and links to the death record. An unclear seal, missing page or conflicting spelling is clarified before certified copies are prepared.
## Are an apostille and certified translation always required?
No. Requirements depend on the destination country, applicable international rules, the receiving institution and whether it accepts an original, electronic document or certified copy. When a Hague apostille is required for a Bulgarian municipal document, it is issued by a regional administration. We also check whether the translation must be completed or recognized in the destination country.
## Does it replace the death record or property documents?
No. The death record proves the event, while the certificate of heirs identifies the persons called to inherit. A title deed, bank certificate, will, court judgment or inheritance declaration serves a different purpose. If the recipient requests a document set, each item is translated according to its own legal function and the references between the items remain clear.
## When may a new or supplemented certificate be needed?
A recipient may request a recently issued copy, and the municipal authority may supplement information after an omission or new circumstance is established. Translation cannot repair an old copy, a missing page or an ambiguous official note. We reproduce the visible content and flag when the client should confirm whether a new certificate must be obtained.
