A bank certificate confirms facts expressly stated by the issuing bank, such as the account holder, IBAN and BIC, currency, account status, balance on a stated date or paid-in capital. Before translation, the document type, destination country and accepted format are identified. This prevents one generic legalization route from being applied to materially different bank documents.
## What can a bank certificate confirm?
Its scope comes from the issued text. It may cover an individual or company, one or more accounts, a specific amount and date, an addressee, purpose and reference number. The translation does not turn that information into proof of income, account activity, creditworthiness or absence of liabilities unless the bank has expressly certified those facts.
## Are a bank certificate, statement and reference the same?
No. A certificate usually confirms a defined fact at a particular date. A statement records transactions and balances over a period, while a bank reference may describe the client’s relationship with the bank. A guarantee and an audit confirmation serve other purposes. The translated title and terminology follow the document actually issued.
## Are two signatures and a wet-ink stamp always required?
There is no universal format for every bank certificate. The issuing bank’s rules, the delivery channel and the recipient’s instructions determine the required features. A document may carry one or more signatures, a stamp, a qualified electronic signature or a verification code. Missing features are not invented when the bank uses another valid format.
## Must every certificate be authenticated by the Bulgarian National Bank?
It should not be assumed that the Bulgarian National Bank authenticates every document issued by a commercial bank. The applicable route depends on the document’s legal nature, the signature and the foreign recipient’s written instructions. Where additional authentication is needed, the exact sequence is confirmed for that case before the order is accepted.
## Which details receive special attention in translation?
The bank’s official name, account holder, IBAN, BIC or SWIFT, currencies, figures, dates, reference number, addressee and stated purpose are checked. With several accounts or currencies, each value remains linked to the correct row. Names, decimal separators, signatures, seals and electronic validation features are reproduced as they appear in the source.
## Is a paper original required?
A complete legible copy is normally sufficient for initial review and quotation. The final procedure may require a paper original, an official copy or a verifiable electronic document. If the bank provides a digitally signed file or verification code, the original electronic format is preserved and assessed separately from a printout.
## Is an Apostille or consular legalization required?
Not in every case. A bank document does not automatically become a public instrument merely because a bank issued it.
