Two core language checks with additional control when needed
A translation includes the translator’s own check and independent revision by a second linguist; subject review, proofreading and technical checks are added to suit the document.

There is no single fixed number of checks for every translated document. The core language control comprises two clearly separated steps: the translator checks their own work, followed by bilingual revision against the source by a different competent person. Further checks are selected according to the purpose, subject matter, format and risk associated with the document’s intended use.
During the self-check, the translator compares the translation with the original and confirms that the meaning has been conveyed fully and accurately. Omissions and repetitions, names, numbers, dates, references, abbreviations and terminology are examined. Consistency is also checked throughout the file or across a related set of documents. This is an essential part of the translator’s work, but it does not replace independent revision.
The next step is bilingual revision by a second qualified linguist. The reviser works with the source and target texts together and assesses accuracy, completeness, terminology, grammar, style and suitability for the agreed purpose. When an error or ambiguity is identified, it is corrected or referred back for resolution. A separate reader brings a fresh perspective and reduces the chance that the author of the translation will overlook their own error.
Additional control steps may be included when the project requires them. A subject specialist can examine complex legal, medical, technical or financial material. A monolingual review considers readability and the effect on the target audience. Proofreading after layout checks typographical errors, line breaks and displaced elements, while technical quality assurance compares tables, numbering, tags, formulae and file versions.
Final verification confirms that the agreed edits have been incorporated, the correct file is ready for delivery and the client’s instructions have been followed. A project coordinator or customer-service operator organises assignments, deadlines and versions, but administrative coordination is not another level of linguistic revision. Formatting is likewise a separate technical service when the document calls for it.
La Fit Trans defines the exact control process after considering the language pair, subject, purpose, format and volume. For written translation services delivered under ISO 17100, the translator’s check is complemented by revision by a different competent person; subject review, proofreading and specialist layout are added for the particular assignment. The quotation identifies the applicable scope so that the client knows what will be checked before delivery.
