There is no single universal minimum lead time for requesting an interpreter. An earlier enquiry widens the choice of suitable professionals and leaves time to coordinate the programme, preparation and equipment. A date is considered arranged only after the assignment details have been clarified, availability has been confirmed and the client has accepted the specific quotation.
A short consecutive assignment at a notary, public authority or business meeting may sometimes be arranged at short notice, particularly for a widely available language combination, a venue in the same city and normal working hours. This is not a guarantee of an interpreter on the day of the enquiry or the following day. Every urgent request is checked against the available specialists, time, location and required professional background.
More time is needed for simultaneous interpreting, several language channels, a less common language combination, a long programme or an event outside the city or abroad. Organisation may then include a team of interpreters, shifts, travel, accommodation, booths, receivers, sound equipment or technical support.
