A notarised declaration requires translation of both the declarant’s statement and the notarial certificate. The applicable apostille or legalisation route depends on the destination country, the recipient and the form of notarisation.

A notarised declaration may record consent for a child to travel, accommodation or address details, civil status, authority to represent a person or company, source of funds, a fact required by a commercial authority or another personal or corporate statement. Its purpose determines which details matter and whether the recipient expects an original, a certified copy, a translation or further authentication.
Certification of a signature confirms that the named person signed or acknowledged the signature before the notary. It does not automatically confirm the truth of every fact stated in the declaration. Where both signature and contents are certified, the notarial wording says so expressly. The translation preserves this distinction because the two forms of certification may have different legal effects for the recipient.
A Bulgarian declaration intended for use abroad normally includes the statement, the notarial certificate, register number, date, notary’s name and territorial jurisdiction, signature and seal. If the destination applies the Hague Convention and requires an apostille, the competent authority authenticates the notary’s signature, capacity and seal rather than the factual accuracy of the declaration.
There is no single route for every notarised declaration. An international agreement may remove the need for an apostille, while a particular recipient may accept a certified translation without further legalisation. For a destination outside an applicable convention or treaty regime, authentication by Bulgarian authorities and the diplomatic or consular mission of the destination country may be required in sequence.
A foreign notarised declaration for use in Bulgaria is assessed according to its country of origin, the status of the notary and the Bulgarian recipient’s requirements. An apostille, where applicable, authenticates the foreign notary’s signature and capacity. A legal-assistance treaty may dispense with it; without an applicable treaty, the relevant consular legalisation chain is considered.
The translation covers the complete declaration, notarial certificate, seals, stamps, register numbers, apostille and every attachment without abridgement. Names, addresses, identity-document numbers and dates are handled consistently. Blank fields, handwritten additions, corrections and illegible details are indicated without inventing content or changing the legal meaning.
For a bilingual declaration, the two texts are compared and the wording to which the notarial certificate applies is identified. Electronically signed documents, scans and paper originals are not interchangeable in every procedure. The form accepted by the receiving institution determines whether the service comprises translation, certification of the translation, apostille, consular legalisation or editorial review only.
